 The Money - David Milch Drama nears Pilot Order at HBO

David Milch is close to returning to HBO 's primetime. The writer behind HBO's Deadwood, John From Cincinnati and Luck has another project that is close to a pilot green light at the pay cable network, where he is under a deal. HBO's Michael Lombardo and Richard Plepler addressed the project, which Milch is executive producing with Art and John Linson, during the network's TCA session today. "It's a look at a dynastic New York media family, a look at power, the complexity of modern urban life in a classic Milchian voice," Plepler said. The script, winch has been in the works for a while, "may go into production soon and we're talking casting," Lombardo said. I've learned that Justin Chadwick is attached to direct the potential pilot for the project, which is titled The Money.

Very interesting news.  I'm looking forward to where this goes because "The Newsroom" is also set in NYC and is about media... yes, the news media, but there is still a similarity between the two shows.  I guess I'm used to HBO doing new series that are very different from other ones currently running.

So, I guess "Luck" had no luck   ;D

:DHBO picks up pilot for new David Milch show it hasn't canceled too soon yet :D

HBO continues to be very interested in working with David Milch, so long as that work zone has gates preventing any horses from wandering in there. As previewed at this year's TCAs, the network has gone ahead with a pilot order for The Money, a show in which the Deadwood and Luck creator once more examines the schemes of powerful men. This time it's In Bruges star Brendan Gleeson as an American media mogul, who wields his mighty influence in a ruthless bid to control both his growing empire and his own family, probably while also emitting some very creative profanity. Given Milch's past success rate with his pilots landing series orders at HBO (with John From Cincinnati, he's been three for four), odds are definitely in his favor that The Money will get picked up as well, before being quickly canceled following the tragic crumpling of several $100 bills.

Brendan Gleeson is set as the lead in The Money, David Milch's latest drama project for HBO. With Gleeson on board, it has received a formal pilot order. Written by Milch, The Money is about wealth and corruption among the super elite, focusing on American mogul and patriarch James Castman (Gleeson), who wields power and influence to expand his media empire and control his family.

Milch is executive producing with Art & John Linson (Sons Of Anarchy). Frank Rich, who has a deal at HBO, also is exec producing. Justin Chadwick is set to direct the pilot and co-executive produce with Eric Roth and Sarah Caplan. Gleeson, repped by Principal Entertainment and Ireland's The Agency, has won an Emmy for an HBO project, the 2009 movie Into the Storm. This would mark the veteran actor's first U.S. TV series. For Milch, who has been under a deal at HBO for a decade, The Money marks his fifth pilot at the pay cable network. Three of the other four — Deadwood, John From Cincinnati and Luck — went to series.

Nathan Lane To Co-Star In David Milch's HBO Pilot 'The Money'

EXCLUSIVE: Nathan Lane is set to co-star opposite Brendan Gleeson in The Money, David Milch's new drama pilot for HBO. Written by Milch and directed by Justin Chadwick, The Money is about wealth and corruption among the super elite, focusing on American mogul and patriarch James Castman (Gleeson), who wields power and influence to expand his media empire and control his family. Lane will play Gordon McCarren, a reporter for VistaCorp's New York Herald whose job hangs by a thread. He hasn't had a byline in weeks, and he's desperate to garner evidence to support a hot scoop.

Milch is executive producing The Money with Art & John Linson as well as Frank Rich. This year, Lane, repped by ICM Partners and Anonymous Content, received both drama and comedy guest-starring Emmy nominations for his recurring roles on The Good Wife and Modern Family, which he is continuing. He recently wrapped a Tony-nominated turn in The Nance, which was filmed for PBS to air next spring.

Wow.  Nathan Lane AND Brendan Gleeson!  I can't wait to see this pairing.  Brendan Gleeson has been a great character actor in the UK for years.  I'm really looking forward to this show :D

David Harewood has joined the cast of Milch's The Money pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Money revolves around James Castman (Brendan Gleeson), a powerful media mogul who wields power and influence to expand his empire and control his family. Nathan Lane plays Gordon, a reporter for VistaCorp's New York Herald who is desperate to garner evidence for a hot story.

Harewood, who played Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul's (Mandy Patinkin) CIA boss on Showtime's Homeland, will play Kurt Corbitt, a grandiose, boisterous, irascible ideologue and the CEO of the parent company to Castman's holdings.

Milch penned the pilot and will executive produce alongside Art and John Linson and Frank Rich. Justin Chadwick will direct.

British actor Harewood, repped by APA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management, most recently reunited with Homeland's Howard Gordon, Alex Cary and Alex Gansa for their CBS pilot Anatomy of Violence. The drama did not move forward. Harewood's credits also include features Blood Diamond, The Merchant of Venice and Strings.

Laila Robins Joins HBO's THE MONEY

Frequent theatrical headliner Laila Robins is set for a featured role on the new HBO drama series THE MONEY, joining recently announced stars Patrick Kennedy, Dominique McElligott and Brendan Gleeson.

THE MONEY was created by previous HBO series DEADWOOD, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI and LUCK scribe David Milch, with the pilot set to be directed by Justin Chadwick.

Robins is set to play the part of matriarch of the corrupt crime family led by powerful mogul James Castman (Gleeson), Katharine Castman - mother to three adult children (including Kennedy and McElligott), all of whom will figure into the sophisticated adult drama.

THE MONEY is set to start shooting soon. No further details have yet been made available at this time.

Robins previously appeared on Broadway in numerous productions, most recently the 2006 revival of HEARTBREAK HOUSE, with other appearances including FROZEN, THE HERBAL BED and THE REAL THING. Additionally, Robins has starred in many notable Off-Broadway and regional theatrical properties, such as SORE THROATS, MRS. KLEIN, BURNT PIANO and THE FILM SOCIETY, as well as the 50th anniversary production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA at the Guthrie Theater, TINY ALICE with Richard Thomas, plus MACBETH, THREE SISTERS and THE CHERRY ORCHARD at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and many more.

Oblivion co-star Andrea Riseborough has been cast opposite Brendan Gleeson in The Money, David Milch's new drama pilot for HBO. Written by Milch and directed by Justin Chadwick, The Money is about wealth and corruption among the super elite, focusing on American mogul and patriarch James Castman (Gleeson), who wields power and influence to expand his media empire and control his family. Riseborough, repped by CAA, Independent Talent and Untitled, will play Anna Elkin, Oxford educated and a self-made success who is an editor at a top NY newspaper. She will next be seen in Alejandro González Iñárritu's Birdman.

Actors from Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, and Hell On Wheels join David Milch's new HBO show

David Milch's new HBO project The Money will no longer be a two-man piece in which Brendan Gleeson and Nathan Lane exchange witty quips and steely glares. New casting announcements will give James Castman, Gleeson's powerful media mogul character, other characters to scream profanities at, both at home and at the office.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Homeland's David Harewood has been cast as Kurt Corbitt, "a grandiose, boisterous, irascible ideologue and the CEO of the parent company to Castman's holdings." And Deadline reports that Oblivion star Andrea Riseborough has been cast as Anna Elkin, an "Oxford-educated and self-made success who is an editor at a top NY newspaper."

In the more personal realm, Boardwalk Empire's Patrick Kennedy and Hell on Wheels' Dominique McElligott are set to play Castman's adult children, John (the "dutiful and ethically strong" one), and Katherine (the "beloved" one), respectively, while stage actor Laila Robins will play his wife.

Although Gleeson stars as an American mogul, Robins and Lane are so far the only American actors in the cast. Which means that those most excited by this latest round of cast announcements are probably dialect coaches.

Yeah, I wonder if this group of excellent actors can make Milch's show last more than a measly one season? :o Besides, there's no guarantee that it will go from a pilot to series. However, one can always hope, right?  "Tomorrow is...", as we know :D

The HBO pilot firms up its roster with John Carroll Lynch and five more regular and recurring players

HBO's David Milch drama pilot Money has firmed up its cast, adding eight regular and recurring players to its ranks including Ray Liotta and Mamie Gummer.



The Money revolves around James Castman (Brendan Gleeson), a media mogul who wields power and influence to expand his empire and control his family. Nathan Lane plays Gordon McCarren, a reporter for VistaCorp's New York Herald who is desperate to garner evidence for a hot story.

Liotta (Goodfellas, Hannibal) will recur as George Archer, a wealthy, entitled, untouchable Wall Street tycoon.

Gummer (Emily Owens, M.D.; Backstrom) will recur as Tricia Castman, John Castman's (Boardwalk Empire's Patrick Kennedy) wife from old New York money.

John Carroll Lynch (Body of Proof) will recur as Robert Harris, the CFO of the parent company of Castman's many holdings.


Rosemary Harris (the Spider-Man feature films) has boarded the drama in the recurring role of Ellen Knox, Ruth Castman's (Laila Robins) mother and James' mother-in-law, who is described as sharp, funny, outspoken and fearless.


Billy Magnussen (As the World Turns) has nabbed the series regular role of Greg Castman, James and Ruth's middle and probably favorite son.


Ruth Negga (World War Z) is set to play series regular Erin Foley, the no-nonsense and stylishly attractive senior news editor who reports to John Castman.
