Captain, burning books leads to world unrest and wars, so don't. Especially I see you promised everyone of us (right?) a chance to read the whole story, so you got to finish what you put your mind and time in. It's original, I am sure, plough on.

The kid is called Wave Machine. 12 yr. old Aussie Jack Robinson is a perfect Shaunie for a prequel of JFC. Just kidding.

That's either courage or inherent to teens sense of invincibility. Maybe both and something else - the need to live fully?

Australian Teen Whale Rider Sought By Police
by Jack Ryan

The hunt continues for an Australian teen whale rider, sought by police investigating a possible case of harassing wildlife, after receiving reports of a boy spotted climbing onto the back of a southern right whale.

The Australian reports that authorities were combing the beaches near the Western Australia town of Albany at Middleton Beach.

While hopes are that the youth has not been injured or drowned, if he is found alive, he may face a fine of up to $10,000, says the report.

The WA Environment and Conservation Department had received a call about the teen whale rider.

The whales are known for coming near the beaches and appear quite friendly, but should be avoided due to their massive size and ability to unwittingly kill human admirers.

Here is the trailer for a movie called The Whale Rider; one hopes it wasn't the intention of this young man to replicate the actions of the girl in this film, an idealistic 2002 fantasy movie based in New Zealand.

The Wave by Susan Casey

I just started reading this book and Susan makes a very good point right at the onset: on the average two huge ocean freighters like the ones I saw pulling into San Francisco Bay last June disappear at sea per MONTH! Think about that... what if two jumbo airliners disappeared twice a month without a trace, no survivors, wreckage or black boxes to examine??

One of the most amazing things I ever witnessed was sometme in the late 70s maybe 1979 when I was working the main gate at the nuclear power plant in Avila Beach, CA... there had been a series of fierce winter storms and I had a perfert view of the Union 76 pier where the pipeline is located... and saw a huge wave break over the pier and completely engulf it... don't ask me how but the darn thing withstood that pounding....

I deeply respect Laird he's like the Lance Armstrong of surfing or maybe Lance Armstrong is the Laird Hamilton of biking LOL! but I have my reservations about tow in surfing... I guess I'm kind of a purist in the sense that no human could get there without the aid of a jet ski or helicopter... therefore maybe humans have no business being out there in the first place.... to me its like getting airlifted say within a mile of the peak of Everest getting to the top and saying you scaled it... but no matter how you slice it... it takes guts to engage a 100 foot wave no doubt!

as the shark swims... this isn't that far from where my sons and i used to surf in the 90s.... unlike the weather and the waves themselves shark activity is virtually unpredictable as is each individual shark.... if this was indeed a great white it may have been a young one.... an adult shark probably wouldn't have left much to fish out of the water... the CG actually had a search on for the missing leg parts.. whew! I give his buddy a lot of credit... he actually swam toward the attack to save his friend.... that does take guts.... cause usually where there's one hungry shark there's another lurking around... i love the ocean... i love the art of surfing in any of its incarnations but man its wild untamed country and just about anybody who wants to get wet can enter it at any time...  and guess what?  great Mother Ocean and all of her children really don't give a shit about us...  ok end of sermon!

An experienced and accomplished big wave rider from Kauai, Milosky was wearing a flotation device that did not save his life. Another surfer, Nathan Fletcher, went looking for Milosky on a Jet Ski when he did not surface after his fall. Fletcher found his body 20 minutes later about a mile (1.6km) from the surf.
