A day late for my posting these but I'm also a day late for my pizza so I'm having a SciFi Pizza SATURDAY instead :D  More good tunes from Julian...

You know this track... All the members of this group all passed away except the middle singer of the backing vocals (in dark blue suit - Abdul "Duke" Fakir).

"Reach out" to your loved ones during Post-Hurricane Sandy.

the four tops - reach out i'll be there.mpg

By the Four Tops on the 1974 album "Meeting Of The Minds" which is a very good album.

Just listen to the message... It's appropriate to those experiencing the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

We are a strong bunch here in Jersey!

We do have odd/even days for gas but not because of a fuel shortage but because many of the gas stations are not equipped to work on generations.  The gas in at the station but it just can't be pumped.  Gov. Christie says that will be changed in the future...  And he'll do it too!

We are the most Southern county of the original 12 counties that got the odd/even gas days, but since then all NJ counties are doing it just as a precaution.

Maybe the increase of earth quakes is related to the melting ice caps and permafrost?  When all that weight of ice is removed in one section it changes the tectonic weight distribution that needs to be relieved someplace else?  Just a thought...

There are still people without power and it's been 12 days!  I'm so glad we only had 8 days of it.

I'll still here and kicking... glad you are doing the same.

Monadista Power!

Hello everyone!

It's me!  I survived  ;D  However we didn't have electric for over 8 days :(  I did have hot water, a Verizon copper land-line (has it's own power source ) and a hand-cranked radio.  But no electric or heat.  I found that keeping 4 candles burning kept my room at a consistent 50 degrees which was fine as long as I kept my hat and scarf on and stayed under the down comforter... the things you learn in an emergency!

My brother and his family live in the cottage in my backyard and they have a gas stove so they brought me hot meals and I made phone calls for them.  It worked out very well... all things considering.

I live 7 blocks from the ocean.  Most of the storm serge damage happened up to 4 blocks in.  And we have no trees in our yard or around us so we had no storm damage... except for a small leak from the chimney into the basement but it didn't damage anything.

All in all we are VERY LUCKY!

Right now it's snowing!  I really glad we have heat!!!

This is the boardwalk 7 blocks from my house before Sandy hit:

This is the same boardwalk afterwards:

Thank you Sven for your thoughts.

I'm 7 blocks, 1 mile, from the ocean.  We still have power but the wind is really kicking up now.  I'm on a slight hill so we have never flooded here... but 3 blocks from us does.  The eye of the storm will come ashore about 30 miles South of here.  The worse will come around midnight to 7am.  I have a lot of family around so I'm not worried.

I'm trying to get computer work done while I still have power... If you don't hear from me, don't worry :)

Ahh...  Another SciFi Pizza Friday tune fest from Julian :D

This album came out in 1975 (Moonlight Serenade). A brilliant self taught pianist in the Bossa Nova mold.

Eumir Deodato - Moonligth Serenate

This tune is called "West 42nd Street" from the same 1975 album 'Moonlight Serenade'. Sounds like a film score, but I just love the rhythm.

Eumir Deodato West 42nd Street

This track is "Havana Strut." This is still from the same 1975 album "Whirlwinds."

Eumir Deodato is an xtra-ordinary producer who has written tracks for the likes of Kool & The Gang.

Goovin' Tunes for this SciFi Pizza Friday...

Again from the one and only family of Soul. This one came out in 1969.
The five stairsteps - Danger she's a stranger

This came out as a single in 1966, it was written by the legendary Curtis Mayfield on behalf of the Stairsteps.

Have a wonderful Sci-Fi weekend.

Julian's back!  Yes, some of us still build our own computers   ;)  Here is this week's SciFi Pizza Friday tunes...  Yippee!

I probably sent this to you once before, but I have to send it again.

The Chicago group was dubbed "First Family of Soul" because of their successful five-year chart run; the moniker was later passed on to The Jackson 5.

OOH CHILD by The Five Stairsteps

This track "Sweet As A Peach" came out in 1970; same time and album as the previous track in "Ooh Child."

Hope this takes your groupies back to the good old early 1970s and blows their minds.

The 5 Stairsteps - Sweet As A Peach

I was trying to find the classic tune "Up & Down" by the Five Stairsteps for you to enjoy...

This is former member of the Five Stairsteps Clarence Newton Burke doing great justice to Sly and the Family Stone's tune

Sorry for not posting on my SciFi Pizza Fridays the last 2 weeks, it's because Julian's computer was crashing and he had to rebuild it and get all his programs reinstalled!  YUCK!  He's almost done with it so hopefully this Friday we will have more good music to post :D

Hi Sven,

Yes it takes long to load.  I think it's because I've been putting 3 videos per post and when you load the page, every video has to load.  Let me see if I can limit the number of posts shown on a page and that will make the page load faster.

As for not posting on Fridays the last 2 weeks, it's because Julian's computer was crashing and he had to rebuild it and get all his programs reinstalled!  YUCK!  He's almost done with it so hopefully this Friday we will have more good music to post :D

Another belated SciFi Pizza Friday music fest...  But it's a real goove'in one!

"Oh What a Night".  Same title, different song! This tune came out in 1959.

The Dells - Oh What a Night

I am sure you know this tune.

December 1963(Oh What a Night!)-Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons-Lyrics

If you are tiring of me sending you these tunes, "Blame It On The Night!"  This night tune is more up to date than the previous.  This artist is actually a comedian by trade, but he is so very talented that he should have made it bigger than he did.

Good Saturday to you all!

I went to sleep early last night before Julian sent the weekly music videos, so here is the SciFi Pizza Friday (Saturday :-) tunes...

One more time. This one came out in 1969.

Evil Ways ~ Santana

This was on the 1976 album called "Amigos."

He has plenty of soul his licks.

He is definitely one of my favourite guitarist, if not my favourite.

Enjoy...

Europa (Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile), Santana

A taste of the great Carlos Santana.

Well All Right ~ Santana

Your weekly dose of SciFi Pizza Friday music videos from Julian:

This one came out in 1970, when you were still using the old typewriters. 42 years of technology passed by, you are using the Android technology.  Sci-Fi turn reality. How's that for a change?

The Impressions-Times Have Changed (Leroy Hutson)

Mellow as a cello...   At the time of this film' release, I was still at boarding school. My older "music mad" sister had this soundtrack album 'Three The Hard Way' (a film starring Jim Brown, Jim Kelly and Fred Williamson) which had this track 'Wendy.' She played this tune almost everyday back then.   Hope it mellows out the stress out of you for the weekend Sci-Fi treat!

"WENDY" BY IMPRESSIONS 1974

Another mellow as a cello tune.  Again from the 1974 'Three The Hard Way' soundtrack album.  I will be playing, relaxing and reminiscing to a lot of my old classical mellow tunes for the weekend.

Storing it on a "cloud" someplace would preserver the data.  I don't know of any free ones at the present time but will keep looking.

There are hosts that boast "free hosting" which are actual hosting accounts but have limits.  One of the most reputable has a storage, or disc space limit, of 1,500 MB but you have to own all copyrights to the material you host there.

I just checked and the current size of this domain, not counting the size of the database or email, is about 670 MB.  Now I will go through the site and find any redundant or unnecessary information and remove it, but it's still going to be a big site!   Another option to reduce size is to turn it into a WordPress site which will help some but it will do nothing for the size of this forum which is currently around 390 MB.

I have written Marc who did the digital work for JOHN to see if he has any ideas.  I also found this pdf from the Association of Research Libraries that talks about changing copyright laws to deal with the digital age...  http://www.arl.org/bm~doc/the-ala-and-arl-position-on-access-and-digital-preservation.pdf

And THAT got me thinking that what is really needed is some form of a Trust Fund that would preserver digital art just like old movies are preserved...  I really like this idea.  Anyone want to research if there is anyone currently out there doing this?

So, I need to get back to my work for the day.  I'll stop by later with the weekly music installment.

Hello Sven,

Welcome back from your vaca, and thank you for your kind words.   :)

As for the site upkeep... As I am hosting everything on my personal server that is free, so the only cost is the domain names: johnfromcincinnati.net, savejfc.net & savejfc.com  This runs about $40 a year.  So we have enough in the fund for about 6 years more.

This brings me to something I've been thinking about of late... Getting older and working on my will, I keep thinking about my domains, like this one, I would like it to survive well past me... as it is the only place on the web that has the historical record of the show...  but how to do that is the question.

If something happens to me then the site will stay up as long as (1) the PayPal account I have as it's funding source for my hosting account still has enough money to pay for it's yearly payment, or (2) something technical doesn't happens that can't be fixed without cPanel access which currently only I have.

I would gladly move it to a different hosting account if it was someplace that will have longevity and not cost a lot.  I'm just at a loss as to what that might be.  Any suggestions?

Some '70's retro from Julian in the UK for this SciFi Pizza Friday... enjoy  ;D

"This one is from Joe Thomas (plays flute and saxophones) released in 1976.  This tunes tells you exactly what you are doing tonite! That is "Galaxy Dreamin'."

Joe Thomas - Galaxy Dreamin'

"Finally, this one will take you to 'Venus' for your Sci-Fi pizza mind trip. Again from the same 1976 album "Feelin's from Within." A real 'ahead of its time' gem and classic. "

Joe Thomas - Venus

Sending you Jazz for a change! This Joe Thomas on flute on the same 1976 album "Feelin's from Within."  This tune is timeless! I also like the bass flowing with the beat of this tune.  Do not mix this Jazz artist Joe Thomas (born 1933) with today's R&B artist Joe Thomas (born 1973).

Coco - Joe Thomas
