Sometime During Eternity ...

By Lawrence Ferlinghetti b. 1919 Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Sometime during eternity
                                                       some guys show up
and one of them
                      who shows up real late
                                                       is a kind of carpenter
      from some square-type place
                                              like Galilee
          and he starts wailing
                                          and claiming he is hip
            to who made heaven
                                       and earth
                                                      and that the cat
who really laid it on us
                                                 is his Dad

          And moreover
             he adds
                         It's all writ down
                                              on some scroll-type parchments
          which some henchmen
leave lying around the Dead Sea somewheres
                a long time ago
and which you won't even find
for a coupla thousand years or so
                                                 or at least for
      nineteen hundred and fortyseven
                                                      of them
                            to be exact
                                             and even then
         nobody really believes them
                                                   or me
                                                            for that matter
          You're hot
                         they tell him
          And they cool him

They stretch him on the Tree to cool

                         And everybody after that
                                                               is always making models
                                          of this Tree
                                                          with Him hung up
          and always crooning His name
and calling Him to come down
                                 and sit in
                                                 on their combo
as if he is the king cat
                                                            who's got to blow
or they can't quite make it

                      Only he don't come down
                                                         from His Tree
          Him just hang there
                                       on His Tree
          looking real Petered out
                                          and real cool
                                                             and also
                   according to a roundup
                                                    of late world news
             from the usual unreliable sources
                                                               real dead

As you requested: saw Water for Elephants over the weekend... excellent film.. with Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon and goddess bless Hal Halbrook! still working!

also Cowboys and Aliens... i guess i'm easily amused but I greatly enjoyed this film altho some of it is rather predictable... just some fun bang bang shoot em up western sci fi!!

and reading Winter Tale by Mark Helprin (did i already mention this?) anyway i'm about half way thru the book and makes me want to burn every word i've ever written!! LOL!  :P

also reading Barbara Eden's auto-bio Jeannie Out of the Bottle... yes we'll always remember her as Jeannie no doubt but she was in some great flicks and tv shows before and after... turns out Burl Ives was a dirty old man and tried to bed down the young Barbara more than once during the filming of a movie with Tony Randall ironically about a male genie played by Ives... tony of course was a complete gentleman and they tangled only in games of gin rummy...

hey did anyone see Yoko curtsying for the Queen the other week?  8)

OK feel like I'm talking to myself but here goes anyway: saw Snowflower and the Secret Fan over the weekend... yeah sisterhood is powerful baby! good flick... but it took me halfway thru the movie to figger out that the actresses were playing all four roles... meaning the modern couple and the girls from the late 1800s in China...  ::) then started watching Kundun the life story of the Dalai Lama... couldn't help myself ordered out chinese food... LOL!  :P

I saw the video on youtube yeah this one was a biggie for sure... they also interviewed an aquariam guy who commended the fishermen for not harassing the animal! LOL! OK you're in an 20 foot boat the white is 18 feet.... who's harassing who? LOL! Not only did the shark nudged the boat with its snout it turned around and gave the side of the boat a hearty tail flap which i believe is shark language for get off my cloud this is my turf... I read Susan Casey's book Devil's Teeth about the studies on the great whites on the Farallon Islands (sp?) which as she says is about the distance of a pizza delivery off the coast of San Francisco but you just as well might be at the ends of the earth... they are interesting creatures not that i would want to meet one but anything that can remain intact on this planet for 6 million years or whatever virtually unchanged and still the kings and queens of the ocean blue has got my respect no questions asked!!

Nice!  8)

I heard they spotted a great white out near Maverick's recently... and maybe the start of yet another urban myth but down near Myrtle Beach some boaters claimed they were stalked by an 18 foot great white... their boat is only 20 feet so do the math.... story has it that the beast circled the boat about a dozen times and nudged it a few times with its snout.. they are curious creatures and this may be the result of years of chumming the sharks so whoever can get good film for shark week and these sight seeing tours... the sharks have now got it in their brain that boat = food... not good!! the great whites are in migration now so anything is possible... luckily for us humans they usually travel alone...

@skor: wow another kerouac doc? i wasn't aware of that... i'll have to check it out I wonder if they cover his years he lived in my hometown... one of my favorite watering holes in Northport by name of Gunther's advertises itself now as "Jack Kerouac's favorite bar"!! too much!

@sven: well of course you were! and as an absolute film nut I find "foreign movies" vastly superior to just about anything H'wood produces with some rare exceptions! Dubbed flicks are an abomination and should be banned! LOL! Hey did you see where Noomi the girl with the dragon tattoo is in the new Sherlock Holmes flick? i'm really pissed they didn't cast her in the american version of "Girl" she does speak english for god's sake!!

well I saw Super 8 over the weekend with a highly skeptical eye but hey I liked it! The kids are great in this movie and  thoroughly enjoyed it even tho Spielberg produced it... and don't forget to watch the end credits some real surprises there for ya!  :P

@ sven netflix has such a large inventory go for something slightly dated that you haven't seen... which by the way I tried watching the Red Circle a 1970 french crime thriller whew! the sure cure for insomnia! even with Yves Montand!

Mailer liked his whisky and women no doubt but i'm sure he had a few puffs of the evil weed during the sixties... In Tough Guys Don't Dance there's a woman's decapitated head stuffed in a black plastic garbage bag with about a kilo of ganji...I can't remember why tho??  :D

saw Horrible Bosses... kinda has that Hangover feel to it... I thought it would be more like an Office Space kinda flick but not so.... still quite funny and the cameo appearances by some old timers was a pleasant surprise!  and Jennifer Aniston as the nympho dentist was quite amusing!!

One of my favorite lines: I'm coked out of my head and I'll punch who I want! I think I actually said that once!  :P

actually i think keith is all three... i'll let your imagination runaway with itself as to what Bill Clinton and Norman Mailer represent!  :P

@sven: well its just a pair of shoes and/or a tshirt... i've sent several emails but of course no reponse... so whatever happens happens right?   ::)

huge article on Nathan Fletcher in Surfer mag haven't read it... these guys make their living SURFING so i better not hear any whining about how tough his life is okay?

and speaking of a tough life: The ASP giveth and the ASP taketh away... they gave Kelly Slater the title in San Fran the other day and then had to take it back due to an error in the points awarded with great apologies to Owen Wright how won at Long Beach NY is September beating Kelly by several points: keep in mind that when Kelly won his first title Owen was 1 yr old!!   ;D

@Sven: my best and worst critic! LOL! the only excuse i can use is i was trying to beat the same day deadline of 10/20 & keep in mind this is for Surfing magazine and the prize is either a pair of shoes or a tshirt so it wasn't exactly the Nobel Laureate (SP?) I was going for... lets face it the demographic of Surfing mag is mostly likely sexually frustrated angst ridden males from 12-30 with a couple of old farts like myself peppered in... so cute and predictable it is! LOL!

Yo Ms WL: what can I say? I'm an old school diddy bop rocker and its all about the hair! can you dig that? so that's why I am usually sans chapeau unless its blizzard conditions...   :P

@Sven: there is something severely wrong with this country right now! oh wait a minute! I know what it is! wasting millions upon millions of dollars on a stupid ground war that even Hannibal couldn't win while Americans lose their homes, their health, and their minds... i'm an old 60s street radical... maybe its time we took it to the streets one more time!
