HBO's cancellation of the beleagured horseracing drama "Luck" cost the network $35 million,
according to an earnings report released by Time Warner Wednesday.

Time Warner, which owns the premium cable provider, said it suffered the "impairment" because of the series' cancellation in its first season following the death of three horses.

The show had already started production on its second season, and most of the costs were attached to shutting down production during that unaired season, resulting in the $35 million writedown, HBO said.

Sharing my Luck with my JFC family:
This is my 35 year old Morgan horse Commander modeling saddle cloths from Luck that I was so fortunate (happy giddy ecstatic) to acquire from someone who got them at the Santa Anita auction. Turo Escalante Exercise saddle cloth and the Winning cloths # 2 Pint of Plain and #1 Gettin' up Morning from the final race. I am the happiest David Milch fan ever. These were a 25th wedding anniversary gift and dearer to me than any gold or silver.

Luck - Blu-rays, DVDs for HBO's David Milch-Created Series Starring Dustin Hoffman

Late-November street date for these 4-disc sets
Posted by David Lambert
   8/09/2012

From David Milch (Deadwood, NYPD Blue) and Michael Mann (Public Enemies, Ali), this one-hour drama centers on an intuitive tough guy named Chester "Ace" Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman), who has always been involved with gambling, from bookmaking and money laundering to casino operations. Recently released from prison after three years, he teams with Gus Demitriou (Dennis Farina), his longtime chauffeur and muscle, to craft a complex plan involving the Santa Anita Racetrack in California.

As they plot out Ace's strategy, the pair recruits Turo Escalante (John Ortiz), a successful trainer with a sordid reputation. In the meantime, an old trainer (Nick Nolte) nurtures a possible breakthrough thoroughbred, while a ragtag group of four racetrack groupies band together to try to catch lightning in a bottle - as winners of an elusive Pick Six bet.

HBO has announced that Luck - The Complete 1st Season (and the show's only season; it's already been canceled) is coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc on November 27th. The 4-disc sets are priced at $59.99 SRP for the DVD, and $79.98 SRP for the Blu-ray version. Bonus material (if any) hasn't been announced yet, but here's a look at the packaging for both versions:

Luck is back, sort of...

from IMDB Luck message board, posted by cfamick (Mon Feb 18 2013)

"Beginning in March 2009, John Perrotta was employed as a producer and screen writer/executive story editor/co-producer as well as technical consultant for Red Board Productions, working on the pilot and subsequent HBO series called "Luck," which premiered on that network in January 2012.

The following blog is the writer's depiction of an imagined racetrack-based story, an ongoing saga, which includes some of the characters depicted in the ill-fated "Luck" series:"

I have been following that developing story, it's good that someone is doing what we were trying to accomplish with Further Days of JFC. Who knows, if Kickstarter were in existence in 2007, JFC could've been brought back.

Well, water under the bridge.
